Upheld by God's Word
Scripture Reading — Psalm 119:113-120
“Do not fear, for I am with you … I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
—Isaiah 41:10
Kent’s wife was quickly climbing the corporate ladder, leaving him behind to be the house-husband for their two sons. In the circle of top management, she found another man more compatible with her powerful ambitions. Filing for divorce, she sued for control of everything, including their children and funds.
Under attack and with scant resources to fight battles in court, Kent found himself giving in to fear and sinking into despair. He spent hours in prayer, asking, “Sustain me, Lord… Hold me up.” He searched God’s Word for assurances of God’s presence and power and found promises like the ones in Isaiah 41:10 above.
Through months of struggle, God lifted Kent’s depression, restored his confidence, and stopped the attacks. Now he is enjoying the Lord’s firm hold on his life. His blessings include a secure place to live, a good job, and the love of his sons, who also trust in Jesus as their Savior and Lord.
What difficulties are you going through? Are you being assaulted and suffering through a season of fear and discouragement? Are you ready to give up? If you believe in Jesus, you need to know that God has a firm hold on your life—and you can hold on to him too, now and forever. Open God’s Word, and he will assure you.
Lord, we are confident that you are our strong helper and we do not have to be afraid of what people can do to us. Amen.
