Ask for Everything

Psalm 104

All creatures look to you to give them their food at the proper time.
Psalm 104:27

—

Psalm 104 is a song of praise to God for his creation and for his constant care of the universe. When we read the whole psalm, we are reminded of the joyous provisions that God makes for his creation and for us!

People matter to God, so he provides for them. All creation depends on God, as we do. When we take pleasure in our pets, we are acknowledging that God takes care of them too. When we go hiking or fishing for relaxation and pleasure, we recognize God has provided for all of life. God’s care for his creatures brings joy to us all.

What’s more, God provides “at the proper time.” Jesus taught us to pray, “Give us today our daily bread” (Matthew 6:11). In the Old Testament God provided manna for his people in the desert. The people had to gather just enough food for each day, trusting that God would provide for each day. Manna—and later, quail—brought joy. (See Exodus 16.)

We have joy in the simple blessings of life: a puppy dog’s wagging tail, a purring cat, a fisherman’s prize catch, a loved one’s warm embrace, good food, adequate clothing. These are all reminders that God created us to enjoy him and his world. We all look to God for everyday living. We rejoice in his gifts. Be happy in God today!

Dear God, provider of all and for all, help us by faith to find happiness in your daily provision for our lives. Make joy in your blessings a part of our everyday life. For Jesus’ sake, Amen.
