The Great Events of the Kingdom

2 Kings 13:1-9

As for the other events of the reign of Jehoahaz ... 2 Kings 13:8

—

Sadly, the "other events" in the life of Jehoahaz were the same old draggy, sinful kinds of things most of the other kings did. Jehoahaz was just another sinful king, boring in his sinfulness.

So it was for Craig. Day in, day out, it was more porn. More secrets. More weakness and lethargy in his life as a husband. Just a boring routine of guilt and shame.

I went to visit a casino once. Mostly it was dull. In commercials for this casino, everybody has lots of friends--all smiling and laughing together. But all I saw were lonely people slumped over games, looking glazed and bored. Sin, in the end, is just a dead-end drag.

Craig, too, felt he was at the dead end of sin--driven to seek out places of sin, but bored when he got there.

But God helped him. Repentance found traction. Craig started living out his repentance in Jesus, and he did godly things needed to reignite his life and his marriage. He began to help other people who were stuck in the sin he knew so well. He began to be a powerful blessing to his family and his church.

There's nothing more exciting than seeing God take hold of someone's life.

This is your day! God has prepared good works for you to do in the name of Jesus (Ephesians 2:10). Ask him to lead you into the thrilling events of his kingdom!

Father, show me. Lead me out from my slavery to sin. Teach me to see the beauty of your work around me, and within me. Guide me into the thrilling life of your kingdom! Amen.
