We’re thanking God for 75 years of the Today daily devotional. Since 1950, Today has been helping God’s people refresh, refocus, and renew their faith with daily Scripture readings, thoughtful meditations, and prayer. Originally titled The Back to God Hour Family Altar, the booklet of daily devotions was re-titled Today in 1971. Now at 75 years old, Today reaches hundreds of thousands of readers and listeners worldwide in more than five languages. Today is available on the Web, email, mobile app, radio, podcast, through your virtual assistant… and yes, it’s still available as a printed devotional booklet.

We invite you to explore our history and hear what readers, listeners, writers, and financial supporters say about how God has worked in their lives through Today

Reader testimonial

Our family has been blessed by the Today devotional, and especially by an Advent devotional from over thirty years ago! We loved the way the author brought the characters of Christmas to life. We held onto that month of devotions, and it became an Advent family favorite. But the story doesn’t end there. When our children grew up, got married, and started families of their own, they asked for that same devotional to share with their families. That one month of devotionals has blessed three generations of our family, guiding and blessing us through Advent for over three decades.

Our family thanks the Today staff, authors, editors, translators, and production crew for devotionals that inspire and leave a legacy of faith.

Writer testimonial

Writing for Today has been one of the quiet joys and steady graces of my ministry. The discipline of sitting with Scripture, listening for God’s heart, and shaping words for everyday discipleship has formed me as much as—maybe more than—the readers. I’m grateful for the notes from people across generations and continents who met God in a line or a prayer. The editorial team’s thoughtful guidance has sharpened my voice toward clarity, compassion, and hope. As Today celebrates 75 years, I’m humbled to play a small part in that legacy of faithfulness. Thank you for inviting me into this gospel work.

Today is a free gospel resource, but it is not free to publish: there are significant costs to produce and distribute a high-quality devotional. Today is made possible through the generous support of readers and listeners like you. Your gift will bless generations to come with Today as we begin our next 75 years.
