The Bible makes it clear that prayer is an important part of the Christian walk. “Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus,” Paul writes in 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 (NIV). Some versions translate the same verse to read “pray without ceasing.” Just as we need to regularly communicate with our loved ones to maintain those relationships, prayer is the most important way we communicate in our relationship with God.
Although the idea of prayer may seem simple, it can be intimidating and confusing for some. If you’re struggling to understand the “why” and “how” of prayer, or simply want to strengthen your prayer life, here are five short devotions, each with a Scripture reading and reflection on the topic of prayer:
As believers, we’re told that we should pray, but it’s not always clear why. To begin with, prayer brings us into communion with God.
We know that God is not a genie who grants our wishes, so what did Jesus mean when he said “Ask for anything and I will do it?”
Prayer is important, but does it matter how or where we pray? It’s the posture of our hearts that really matters in praying.
You may be familiar with the Lord’s Prayer where Jesus teaches us to pray: “Give us today our daily bread.” But is this request only about bread?
Through prayer, we present our needs and requests to God, but also our praises and thanksgiving.
May your relationship with God be blessed and strengthened as you spend time with him in prayer.
