7 Devotions for Gardeners

The Bible doesn’t take long to confirm what gardeners know all too well: that growing food will be done through painful toil, by the sweat of the brow, and with thorns and thistles along the way (Genesis 3:17-19). Nearly everyone in human history has experienced this process of growing or gathering food in one form or another. This struggle appears metaphorically throughout the Bible.

While I use my garden as only supplemental sustenance, I find the biblical metaphors about seeds, soil, seasons, and growth more and more applicable as parallels to my walk with God.

Today Devotional has been publishing daily devotions since its debut in 1950, and has frequently reflected on those Bible passages that address the universal struggle of growing food. And while you may explore this theme on your own by perusing our devotional library, we’ve assembled seven devotions about gardening to get you started.

May these devotions from Today refresh your spirit, refocus your heart, and renew your faith as you contemplate God’s glorious creation.

PS: If you are looking for an entire month of devotions on gardening, our June 2017 devotional series, “Life in God’s Garden,” is the place for you!
