Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face.
In love Jesus says, “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God” (Matthew 5:8). Who are the pure in heart? They are not perfect, but they have an earnest desire to know God and to please him in all that they say and do. If you have confessed Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord, and desire to do as he commands, then, you are one who is pure in heart.
When will we, the pure in heart, see God? We see something of God in his magnificent creation and in the faces of his people now being gathered from “every nation, tribe, people, and language” (Revelations 21:9).
But in this world, torn and scarred by sin, suffering, and death, we don’t always see God as clearly and as often as we would like. More often than not we identify with the Psalmist who, in his suffering, cried out to God: “How long, O Lord? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me? How long must I wrestle with my thoughts and everyday have sorrow in my heart?” (Psalm 13:1-2).
Rest assured that God’s love will never fail us. Even though “now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror,” one day we shall see Jesus face to face. For the pure in heart, “there will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain” (Revelation 21:4).
Heavenly Father, thank you for the glimpses I see of your goodness. I rest assured in your promise that one day my faith will give way to the sight of a perfect and glorious world. Amen.
See God's love, power, presence, and purpose in your life every day!
