Do you ever take time to observe the birds around you?
Birdwatching is one of my favorite hobbies, and I especially enjoy the time out in the beauty of God’s creation.
Jesus said, “Look at the birds of the air. They do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?” (Matthew 6:26).
In addition to many other things in creation such as rocks, trees, water, and flowers of the field, Jesus points our attention to birds so that we can reflect on and understand more about God’s love and care for us. God has made birds a beautiful part of his creation. They also serve as symbols and illustrations in his great story of redemption, reminding us of God’s presence and the peace that he brings. In his grace, God speaks to us through his marvelous creation so that we can more fully enter into his promises.
November’s author, Julia Prins Vanderveen, lives and works in Vancouver, British Columbia, with her husband, Trevor, and their three sons, Gideon, Levi, and Philip. Julia has served as a co-pastor with Trevor in Vancouver, and she is now working at a Christian school there as a campus pastor and as a part-time English teacher.
As you read the Today devotions this month, may you be refreshed, refocused, and renewed in God’s Word!
