How would you describe God? If you were speaking to friends, family members, or classmates about God, what would you tell them?
The Bible—in both the Old and New Testaments—gives us a wonderful variety of ways to describe God. The Bible portrays God as a defender, advocate, and shepherd. He is our master, friend, and loving parent. At all times, especially when we realize that no one else can fill those roles, we find deep comfort in who God is.
As we reflect on and pray about the various ways God is described in the Bible, may we find peace and joy in the truth of God's Word. May we remember with the psalmist that God “is trustworthy in all he promises and faithful in all he does” (Psalm 145:13).
This month’s author, Ben McKnight, was born and raised in western Michigan. He has been married to Kayla for 14 years and has been a dad to Leo for almost five years. After graduating from Calvin Theological Seminary in 2017, he served as a pastor in Grant, Michigan, until spring 2021. He then served as a chaplain for a year at a local retirement community, and then with ReFrame Ministries’ advancement team. In spring 2024, he began serving as the pastor of a church in Cedar Springs, Michigan.
As you read the Today devotions this month, may you be refreshed, refocused, and renewed in God’s Word!
