Our Today devotions for September, written by Jim Poelman, are focused on “Encountering Jesus” in the first five chapters of the book of Revelation.
What comes to mind when you think about the book of Revelation? Perhaps you think of the “gloom and doom” in the various pictures of judgment. Maybe you’re overwhelmed by the imagery and symbolism. You might also feel very unfamiliar with the book. Revelation is one of the most neglected and misunderstood books of the Bible. Yet this book is also rich with important teachings and an encouraging message for churches living in uncertain times.
Throughout this month we will often focus on just one or two verses of Revelation each day, allowing us to give this thought-provoking book the time and attention it deserves. As we explore these passages in God’s Word together, let’s pray that we may encounter the Lord and Savior Jesus anew—or maybe even for the first time.
Pastor Jim Poelman and his wife, Linda, served five churches in Ontario and British Columbia for thirty-nine years. They enjoy family gatherings with their extended household of children and grandchildren—29 members in all—often creating lots of happy noise.
As you read the Today devotionals this month, may you be refreshed, refocused, and renewed in God’s Word!
