Hope for the New Year

Desmond Tutu once said, “Hope is being able to see that there is light despite all of the darkness.”

If there is one thing our world needs, it’s this kind of hope. As the world around us seems to crumble, we desperately long for something to hold onto—not just to get us through the hard times, but to assure us that hard times won’t last forever. We call this hope.

Biblical hope—the hope offered to us through Jesus Christ—is a greater hope than anything the world can give. While the things of this world make promises they can’t keep, the hope given to us through Christ “will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love” (Romans 5:5, NLT).

This new year, take heart and be encouraged by these five devotions, centered around the theme of biblical hope:

Hope for Troubled Hearts

The Bible does not ignore trouble. From the garden in Genesis to the final battle in Revelation, trouble is a part of the picture. And yet, Jesus tells us to trust him.

Unswerving Hope

It is possible to hold unswervingly to the hope we profess because God, who promised the things we hope for, is faithful to keep those promises.

Something New: Hope

The greatest good news of all is that God has given us hope. We do not remain victims to our sins or our circumstances.

Our Living Hope

In his letter, the apostle Peter reminds us that in spite of hardships and challenges, we have a living hope because of Jesus Christ.

Jesus, Our Hope

People live in this world without hope and without God. Against this bleak backdrop of despair, Jesus presents himself as our hope.

As you enter this new year, may you experience joy and peace through the God of all hope.
