Jesus, Lamb of God

As we approach the Good Friday and Easter holidays, how do we understand Jesus’ work for us?

Jesus’ suffering and death were not the work of chance or the result of a flaw in God’s plans. These things happened according to “God’s deliberate plan and foreknowledge” (Acts 2:23). The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, moved by their amazing love for us human beings, entered into the covenant of redemption for our sake. And although Jesus, the Son of God, was crucified, died, and was buried, he also rose victorious over death, ascended to heaven, and now rules over all things so that we can have new life and live with God forever.

Throughout this month, Rev. Hernandes Dias Lopes leads us through Bible passages that help us see God’s redemption plan in action. May these meditations build you up in faith and help you draw near to the God who loves you and wants you to share his love and life with the people around you, both near and far away.

This month’s author, Hernandes Dias Lopes, is the Portuguese-ministry leader for ReFrame Ministries. He also serves as director of Luz Para o Caminho (“Light for the Way”), an organization formed in partnership between ReFrame and the Presbyterian Church of Brazil. Hernandes has written more than 100 books and is a popular conference speaker in Brazil. He graduated from Seminário Presbiteriano do Sul in Campinas, São Paulo, Brazil, and earned a doctorate of ministry from Reformed Theological Seminary in Jackson, Mississippi. He and his wife, Tinha, have two children.

As you read the Today devotions this month, may you be refreshed, refocused, and renewed in God’s Word!
