Life in the Spirit

What’s most important in life? Everyone wants a life filled with love, joy, peace, and other things that give us meaning and purpose for living. But these things can be really hard to find. Many of us, after years of searching and trying one idea after another, remain dissatisfied. That’s because only life in the presence of God really fills our souls with meaning.

Having the rich, intimate presence of God in our lives is called life in the Spirit. The Spirit of God himself comes to live in us, and life in God’s presence is the best life possible. It’s the way God created our lives to be.

This month, let’s explore the theme of “Life in the Spirit.” We’ll find a quality of life that cannot be compared with anything else. With the Holy Spirit, we begin living in eternity even now because of the presence of the eternal Spirit living within us.

This month’s author, Dean Deppe, taught New Testament theology at Calvin Theological Seminary and served as a pastor of churches in inner-city Grand Rapids, Michigan; suburban Toledo, Ohio; and rural Prinsburg, Minnesota. He has been married to Julie for 47 years, and they have four children and five grandchildren.

As you read the Today devotions this month, may you be refreshed, refocused, and renewed in God’s Word!
