Our June Today devotionals will focus on the Holy Spirit, the third person of the Trinity.
In my home congregation, we often recite The Apostles’ Creed during worship. Maybe you do as well. If you know that ancient Christian creed, you might recall that it briefly recites the basic beliefs of the Christian faith. This creed describes—among other important statements of faith—who God is: “God the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth,” “Jesus Christ, his only begotten Son, our Lord,” and “The Holy Spirit.”
Dr. Kurt Selles, director of Back to God Ministries International (the parent organization of our ministry), wrote this month’s readings. This is the third Today he has written on the Trinity. The first two were “The Names of God” (May 2014) and “Names and Titles of Jesus” (February 2015). As a former educator, Kurt told us that he hopes these readings will be teaching tools as much as devotionals. It’s not hard to find lots of information about God the Father and Jesus Christ. But learning about the Holy Spirit can be more challenging.
If you’re interested in hearing more of Kurt’s thoughts as he wrote this Today, I encourage you to check out this brief audio interview.
Our prayer is that these readings about the Holy Spirit will make us more aware of this third person of the Trinity and His power in our everyday life. Think about it this way: not since the Apostles have most of us encountered the Father or Son directly, but the Holy Spirit is with us always. I certainly hope to know God’s Spirit better!
May you be refreshed, refocused and renewed in God’s Word!
