Would you like to start your new year by leaning into God’s promise of peace? In the turmoil of our times, peace can seem far off. We long for the peace of shalom, the well-being of our souls that transcends our circumstances and even our understanding, but sometimes it can seem hard to find. We invite you to spend the first week of the new year going through these selected devotions that explore God’s gift of peace. Each day’s devotion includes a scripture reading, a reflection from the author, and a prompt for prayer. These brief devotions are a great way to get a fresh start on the year and press into God, his Word, and his peace.
Day 1 – The Gift of Peace – God’s peace—shalom—gives assurance that all is right in our souls, even if we can’t resolve all the issues affecting us at this time.
Day 2 – Peace of God – As a child of God, you can experience peace in this broken world because Jesus has won the victory and made you secure in body and soul, in life and in death.
Day 3 – His Presence and His Peace – “The risen Lord offers you his peace: ‘Do not let your hearts be troubled…I am the way and the truth and the life’” (John 14:1, 6).
Day 4 – The Peace of Jesus – Lasting peace comes from Jesus. His peace is deep and soul satisfying. His peace brings wholeness.
Day 5 – The Peace of God in Stressful Times – All of us need to experience the safety of the Lord—not only when we face illness, injury, or death, but also in the daily challenges of life.
Day 6 – Resting on Peace – What we need to keep remembering is that this peace with God is not just something we desire. It’s something God desires to have with us!
Day 7 – The Peace of God – “The peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:7).
Bonus: Day 8 – The Practice of Peace – Only when the Holy Spirit comes into our lives will we discover true peace with God, happiness, reconciled relationships, and harmony in society.
