Sleep and Dreams in the Bible

Have you ever reflected on your dreams? As a college student, I was assigned to keep a dream journal throughout an entire semester. I enjoyed connecting what had happened during the day with my dreams and how certain patterns emerged over time.

The Bible mentions sleep many times throughout its pages. It also talks about dreams—and while they can often be confusing, there are times when God speaks to individuals in dreams (which can also include visions). When he does that, God often reveals something about his plan of salvation—pointing to the Savior, Jesus Christ, who became human like us and also needed sleep.

Throughout this month of Today devotions, we’ll reflect on sleep and dreams in the Bible. As we do so, may we better understand who we are as God’s creatures, knowing that his love for us continues always.

This month’s author, Kurt Selles, is director of ReFrame Ministries, which publishes these devotions. Kurt has served as a missionary in Taiwan and China, and he has also taught missions. Kurt and his wife, Vicki, have three adult children.

As you read the Today devotions this month, may you be refreshed, refocused, and renewed in God’s Word!
