You Are My Witnesses

In Acts 1:8, Jesus says to his followers, “You will be my witnesses. . . .” What does it mean to be a witness for Christ?

One of the amazing things about God is that he chooses to work with us. God wants us to join him on a mission to save people who don’t know him and to renew all of creation! That seems like a tall, intimidating order, but we are not alone. Jesus has given us the gift of the Holy Spirit, and he calls us not only as individuals but also as his church.

September’s author, Kevin DeRaaf, writes

In our work with God on this mission through the years, we have learned that we all have this call on our lives. Some of us are called to serve in God’s mission in other lands, and some of us are called to serve and share the love of God with our neighbors right where we are. Wherever God calls us, we have an opportunity to share the love of Christ with the people God has placed in our lives—and it may not be as intimidating as it seems!

Kevin DeRaaf is the director of Resonate Global Mission, the Christian Reformed mission agency working in more than 40 countries around the world. With a focus on encouraging others to join in God’s mission where they are, Kevin believes that God’s purpose for the local church is to shine as a community of love and grace, showing in tangible ways that Jesus is the hope of the world. He and his wife, Jacquie, have three children and four grandchildren and live in Burlington, Ontario.

As you read the Today devotions this month, may you be refreshed, refocused, and renewed in God’s Word!
