Forgiveness in the Name of Jesus

Acts 10:30-43

"Everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name." Acts 10:43

—

Scientists argue that human beings have two basic needs: energy and a sound environment in which to develop. Food and water provide the energy needed for the functions of life. Clean air, a healthful climate, and nurturing personal relationships provide the physical and social environment in which humans beings can flourish.

But human beings are more than just bodies and minds. They are also created with a spirit. And as the church father Augustine taught, the human spirit is restless until it finds rest in God.

But how do we find rest in God? The Bible gives us a simple, clear message. Sin is the cause of our spiritual unrest. So in order to be healed, we need to believe in Jesus Christ and receive forgiveness of our sins in his name. Now, why are our sins forgiven only in Jesus' name? The gospel teaches that Jesus, the only sinless human being, who is also the Son of God, gave up his own perfect life so that we can have forgiveness of sins by believing in him as Lord and Savior. God credits us with Jesus' sinlessness because of his sacrifice for us.

The most important question for each of us today is this: Has my sin been forgiven; have I been forgiven and cleansed by the blood of Jesus Christ? If your answer is no, be sure to ask God to forgive your sin today!

Lord, please forgive my sins. Come into my life, become my Lord and Savior, and give me new life through your Spirit. Guide me each day to live for you. In Jesus, Amen.
