Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.
Matthew 11:28
I have been losing my hair, and even worse is that the new hairs that sprout up do not stay put long. But what is most comforting is what Jesus said in Matthew 10:30: Even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. In the midst of all the things Jesus has to take care of, our Lord even knows the number of hairs left on my head. How Jesus loves me!
But what about those who are bald? Wang is one of our listeners in China. She was a very happy girl with beautiful long hair. But then she got cancer. During chemotherapy, she lost most of her hair and had to wear a wig. She was very depressed. Then one day a group of fellow believers, all young girls, came to visit her, and they each wore a wig too. Wang was not too amused and thought they were poking fun of her. Then they took off their wigs to reveal that they too were bald. They had purposely shaved their hair off to have solidarity with Wang. They wanted to remind her of the love and compassion of Jesus so vividly portrayed in the words of a song:
Come to the water; stand by my side.
I know you are thirsty; you wont be denied.
I felt every tear drop, when in darkness you cried,
And I strove to remind you its for those tears I died.
Jesus, thank you for loving us whether we are healthy or sick, silver-haired or bald. Help us also to be a channel and testimony of your divine love. In your name, Amen.
See God's love, power, presence, and purpose in your life every day!
