"There is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved." Acts 4:12
Peter's declaration about the name of Jesus was highly offensive to the Jewish leaders of that day. It would also have been offensive to Roman leaders, who worshiped their caesars as gods and saviors.
In John 14:6, Jesus himself declares, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." This exclusive claim angered not only the people of that day. It also angers our modern secular and democratic societies as well as people who follow other religions.
The teaching that Jesus is the only way to God is offensive to the spirit of political correctness that drives much of society today. "Jesus can't be the only way to God!" many say. "What about Buddha? What about Muhammad? And what does this mean for all the good people who follow other religions? Does this mean they aren't saved?"
Let's not tire ourselves trying to soften the gospel's blunt truth. The Bible teaches that there is no other way to God. When we encounter this truth, we can take it seriously, repent, and come to God through Christ--or we can reject it. But we can't be neutral on this matter.
The good news is that Jesus has provided us the way of salvation. Do you believe Jesus is the way to life?
Father, we know that Jesus is the only way to full life with you. By your Spirit, guide us to receive him as the one Savior from sin and death. In his name we pray. Amen.
See God's love, power, presence, and purpose in your life every day!
