The people were delighted with all the wonderful things he was doing.
Luke 13:17
Picture the smirks of people who saw the showdown between Jesus and the synagogue ruler. Again Jesus had bested a religious leader, revealing the hypocrisy of the religious experts and their religious system.
The peoples' greatest joy, though, came simply in seeing the wonderful things Jesus was doing. Imagine watching a crippled woman suddenly walking with perfect posture, or a blind man raising his eyes to see his friends for the first time! Imagine hearing a deaf man weep with joy over the sound of his daughter's voice! No wonder Jesus attracted crowds of followers!
Someday, after Christ has come again to complete his victory over sin and Satan, God will wipe every tear from every eye, and "there will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain"; God will make "everything new!" (Revelation 21:4-5). And there will be great delight among God's people forever.
There are many indications of God's love and power in the time between Jesus' first earthly visit and his second coming. People awaken from unbelief, children of believing parents are baptized, believers persistently fight the good fight, and God-filled churches minister to people who are hurting.
Are your eyes open to see these revelations of God's love and power? If so, then you know delight as well.

Give us vision, Father, for the amazing work you are doing. Keep us from seeing your miracles today as ordinary events. We pray this in Jesus' name. Amen.

See God's love, power, presence, and purpose in your life every day!
