Seek and See

Mark 13:20-31

“At that time people will see the Son of Man coming in clouds with great power and glory.”
Mark 13:26

—

Do you ever try to imagine what your children or grandchildren will be like in ten years? Or your brother or sister? Or a close friend? Maybe you can do that right now about someone you love.

Often we picture the future of our loved ones in wonderful ways. Since we love them, we hope that their future far exceeds what we could ever dream. Maybe you or someone you love has been wonderfully successful in the past decade. I hope so.

But success that sidesteps Jesus isn’t really success at all. Where do you hope and pray your loved ones will be ten years from now in their relationship with Jesus? How about you? Where will you be with Jesus in the next decade? To have a vision of where we want to be in terms of our spiritual maturity can open the way to real spiritual renewal, encouraging it to grow and blossom.

The biblical reality is that someday Jesus will return to earth with “great power and glory.” The date of his return is shrouded in mystery, but we know it will be a day of majesty and wonder. Everyone who is a friend of Jesus and embraces him as Savior will share in that victory. That should make our hearts sing. A worshiping heart is the clearest sign of Christian renewal.

Today I give you all the glory, dear God. You have given me Jesus as Savior, and the Holy Spirit is working to renew my life. Help me grow closer to you. Amen.
