A New Year, A New Work

By Kurt Selles

December 31, 2025

What are you anticipating in the new year?

In January, we find ourselves standing at the edge of something new. The calendar turns, the page flips, and hope rises with the dawn of a new year. Whether or not we make resolutions, most of us feel a pull toward change—toward starting fresh, letting go of the old, and stepping into something better.

Darrell Delaney wrote these words about this month of devotions:

I have learned what it feels like to long for newness—not just in circumstances but deep in the soul. I’ve wrestled with my past, questioned my identity, struggled to let go, and hungered for transformation. And in that wrestling, I’ve encountered the grace of God in powerful and personal ways. I’ve seen how the gospel doesn’t just improve us—it makes us new.

In this 31-day journey, let’s walk through the process of spiritual renewal. My prayer is that you will recognize that you are seen, known, and invited to trust, hope, and believe more deeply and strongly in God’s power to make all things new—including you.

January’s author, Rev. Darrell Delaney, cohosts ReFrame Ministries’ Groundwork podcast and serves as an adjunct professor of pastoral and spiritual care at Calvin Theological Seminary. He is also the founder of Strategic Design Consultants, where he helps faith-driven leaders clarify vision and lead from a place of wholeness in Christ. Darrell and his wife, Kia, have three children. He enjoys spending time with family, walking, reading, and playing basketball, chess, and video games.

As you read the Today devotions this month, may you be refreshed, refocused, and renewed in God’s Word!
