Considering the Bees

How do you feel about bees? Whether you’re scared of them, fascinated by them, or thankful to God for them, they have many lessons to teach us—as Don Byker, this month’s author, will show us.

In Don’s younger days, he learned from relatives that his last name, Byker, means “beekeeper.” Then, about 20 years ago, he started beekeeping with one of his sons. They took a class, got hive boxes and other equipment, and purchased a batch of live bees.

Their experiences and observations, along with learning from other beekeepers, has been fascinating. For Don, this has reinforced his commitment to care for bees as well as all of God’s creation. I’m sure all of us will appreciate bees more this month as we consider the bees.

Don Byker has been a pastor, a chaplain, and a seminary administrator. Now retired, he serves as a neighbor, church member, and community volunteer. He and his wife, Donna, have four married children and four grandchildren.

As you read the Today devotions this month, may you be refreshed, refocused, and renewed in God’s Word!
