I’ve been part of the same women’s small group at my church for nearly 10 years. We’ve had people come and go, but our core group has remained the same. I’ve valued being able to share my life with these women. We not only enrich our study of God’s Word through weekly conversations, but we also support, encourage, and care for one another outside of our meetings. We’ve stood together through the COVID-19 pandemic, family loss, births, diagnoses, and weddings. I couldn’t imagine my life without these women. They are my community, and they exemplify the words from Hebrews 10:24-25: “And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”
If you are part of a women’s group or are looking to join one, we want to support and encourage your continued growth as a community. We have compiled a collection of six devotions that you can share with your group to offer both a deeper study of Scripture and ongoing love, care, and support. We pray that these short reflections leave your group refreshed, refocused, and renewed in God’s Word.
Refreshed by Reading Aloud! My small group always begins our time together by reading through our Scripture passage aloud, with each person taking a turn. Hearing the Bible out loud allows us to slow down and engage with scripture in a community setting.
Supporting Jesus' Ministry. We can find many examples of women in the Bible who played vital roles in supporting Jesus’ ministry. How can we, as women of today, continue to share the good news of Jesus?
Naomi and Ruth: Unintentional Mentor. The beauty of a small group often lies in its diversity of ages, ethnicities, and backgrounds. Naomi’s words influenced Ruth, and we can be positive influences on each other by serving as mentors or simply taking the time to learn from one another.
Power in Community. We were meant to live in community. We each have our own gifts, and together, we can use those gifts thoughtfully and meaningfully to encourage others in their faith.
Family Foundations. In our small groups, we can share the burdens we may be carrying about our immediate and extended families with our church family. We can advise, support, and encourage one another so that we may become examples of God to our families at home.
The Support of Grateful Followers. We work together both to share the good news of Jesus with others and to encourage our continual faith formation. Rejoice and be grateful for the support of your small group, a community for growth, love, and support.
