The Start of Something BIG!

What difference does Jesus’ resurrection make?

Easter, which we will celebrate on Sunday, April 5, wasn’t merely a one-day miracle of resurrection, as wonderful as that was. It was the start of newness in the broken universe—a newness that comes to expression in every person who comes to faith in Jesus Christ.

The apostle Paul’s favorite way of talking about such people is to say that they are “in Christ” (see our month’s theme verse: 2 Corinthians 5:17). Each use of the phrase “in Christ” points back to Jesus’ resurrection and ahead to the new creation, in which God is making all things new. As we’ll see together, Easter is “The Start of Something BIG.”

This month’s author, Dave Den Haan, is an ordained minister who works for Thrive, the Christian Reformed Church in North America agency that equips and encourages congregations. His main focus is to serve churches experiencing conflict and challenge. Before working with Thrive, Dave served as a pastor to two congregations, one in Minnesota and one in Michigan. He and his wife, Connie, have three married children and two grandchildren.

As you read the Today devotions this month, may you be refreshed, refocused, and renewed in God’s Word!
